What I've been up to …

Last night, we used Mae’s 8As as an axcuse for us to go out for a steam boat dinner at Johnny’s Steamboat, Bandar Baru Klang (Jusco Mall).

We arrived at 8.30pm (peak time) but we were lucky to be able to squeeze into a small table (for 7 of us, sans Ayi).

Some had sundae/banana split, others had some Thai desserts. There were also 11 drinks for 7 of us!

The final bill? RM170.80. Not bad really.

Last night we were talking about it, and expected the results to come out today.

But this morning, I totally forgot about it, until DH sms-ed me during lunch time, telling me her mum called him, asking for Nukman’s (aka Mae) results, and obviously his answer was “Don’t know”, which surprised her!

I then called home, asked Mae about the results, and again his reply was “I don’t know”. I told him to call his school (in Seremban which is  slightly over 1 hour’s drive from home), and he sheepishly said he didn’t know the number.

I was telling my office-mates about this, and I was kind of not in a hurry to call the school.   S was nice enough to search for the school’s website, and got the number for me. I obligedly called the school, to be told that Mae got 8As. I managed to ask the guy who answered my call how many students got 8As, but he told me that they were still counting and not sure then.

After 4 previous kids (who got 8As, 7As, 7As, 8As),  I have to admit that Mae’s results were not surprising at all. In fact, I told S earlier that  I was expecting 8As, but  was willing to accept it if he only got 7As (giving allowance to some glitch), hahaha!! Furthermore, PMR results are not as important as SPM results. As long as he can get to go into science stream and remain in his school, I am indeed happy.

Anyway, for the record, WELL DONE, MAE!!

On a slightly different note, I called Cikgu R***ki of my alma-mater, and was told that 112 students (or 77%) of the school candidates got 8As, as compared to 83% last year! I still think the school did very well .

Yeah, Today is the new Hijrah year.

It’s 5pm, and I am now listening to the Light FM radio for its year end countdown of 1000 top songs of the year! (as voted by listeners/readers).

I didn’t even cook today! Took out the beef from the freezer in the morning, but I just didn’t feel like cooking, so I put it back in the freezer, and DH and I went out for lunch (and took some home for the children). I however cooked some dadih, and did some cleaning up though – maybe that’s the reason why after that I felt too lazy to cook.

Anyway, as I visited the Malay online dailies, I noticed that they could not agree on the exact Hijrah dates. I captured the top part of their pages, and here you are:

After the Friday outing with the ladies, I’ve stayed home most of the time yesterday and today. Apart from cooking and lazying around the house, I really didn’t do much else.

I had to decline my students’ reunion dinner last night (in Lumut) because we were planning to go up the hill either yesterday or today. In the end we didn’t go up the hill either . When we heard over the radio yesterday that the north-bound PLUS highway was busy, we felt that we should just stay home, as suggested by Chan, of “Better Vision”, Subang Parade. He said, this time of the year, when all go out for holidays, we should just stay home to avoid the jam and crowd! Not a bad suggestion!

I feel like this long weekend is a “recovering” period from all the running around that I’ve been doing the past few weeks. Furthermore next Thursday we need to go bac kto Kota Bharu (to send Nafis back to school on Saturday) and rush back to S Alam on Saturday, before sending Nukman back to his school in Seremban, we might a well enjoy this weekend at home.

I am sure the kids are not complaining, especially when the school year will start soon. They just want to optimise the time they have with Wii, PS3 and the Internet.

I went to Pasar Tani yesterday for the supply of wet as well as dry groceries, and then today to Tesco for more supplies. Yeah, I’ve been cooking since yesterday! (I cooked on X-mas day too ). This is quite a feat considering that I seldom cook .

I also watched “Mamma Mia!” on the PC on Friday night and again on the TV yesterday . Today we watched “The Prestige” (blu-ray version). Ayi bought the disc and sent it back recently.

As far as hobbies are concerned, today I attempted to tat Jon’s Quantiesque Snowflake. I’ve finished the first two rounds, and will attempt the 3rd round later tonight, after which I’ll take a pic of it, and put it up here.

I look forward to another harmless day tomorrow!

Within 7 days, we went out for dinner a few times, and I’m behind in blogging them . Just watch this page, I’ll upload the pix tomorrow, now that I am back in the mood of blogging again.

On 19th Dec, we went to Kiwi Express, Shah Alam Mall for dinner. DH said he wanted to give the kids a treat. Bok decided to go for the most expensive on the menu, the “T-bone steak” set:

We surely had a great time:

Then last Thursday night, we had a Sushi King dinner at Subang Parade but we forgot to take any pic .

Last night, my BIL, Angah as known to the kids, took us for a dinner of rice porridge (plus all sorts of condiments, of course). Here’s the pic while waiting for our meal:

Last Wednesday, I met up Nury, Sally and Ita for a lunch date at Da Palma Cafe, SACC. The place had some live music, with a solo performer, singing some of our favourites – oldies from 1970s, and 1980s. I think he noticed that most of the patrons that day were of my generation .

As I was the only one working that day, I had to leave earlier than the others, but not without making a promise to meet up again yesterday (Friday).

So, yesterday, Nury and I drove to Ikea, for lunch. We were there by 12.15 noon, and looking at the crowd that was building up, we decided to just sit at a nice table we found.

Ita sms-ed earlier, saying that she could not make it, but on the way we managed to call Ylina who arrived at about 12.30pm. Sally joined us soon after that. By then the queue at the cafe was just too long!

After waiting for a while, and noticed that the crowd didn’t seem to want to decrease, we adjourned to the nearby “The Curve”. We had a delayed lunch at the “Rojak-rojak” place.

On the way home, Nury and I sent Sally home, and had our zohor prayers there. Sally gave us some sausage buns, to be taken home and fried (which I did, soon after we arrived home).

The nice thing about both lunches was that we just sat, and talked and talked – about all sorts of thing!

And finally, thank you to Nury for Wednesday’s lunch, and to Sally for yesterday’s lunch .

Next time I must remember to be the one paying, ya!

Tonight I searched www.youtube.com and found my one of my favourite songs, “What About me?”:

It was the band “Moving Pictures”‘s 1-hit wonder. It was in Australia’s hit in 1982 – when I was still a student there .

I remember I googled for it a couple of years ago, but there was no lead. I’m glad that finally I can find it on youtube. Even as I googled it tonight, I only got 210 hits, as captured here:

That’s what the king said to his prince (or was it to his minister), in “Cinderella”.

That’s certainly how I feel right now. I am not busy any more, but I am still feeling very lethargic, miserable, nauseatic, you name it.

Today I took the kids to shop for their school stuff. Managed to get most of them, except for Nafis’s black Baju Melayu, and Nukman’s white baju melayu. Initially I thought of stopping over at the nearby Kompleks PKNS, but my body was just not up to it .

We came home, and I took a long nap. When I woke up, the dizziness was still there – No! I can’t be pregnant, and I know my body!

It’s just what we the Malays call “Angin” – the feeling of throwing up, but nothing would come out . I can’t be having high-blood pressure, because I checked it, and it was normal. It couldn’t be my cholesterol level either, because I had the blood test recently, and it’s only 4.2!

This afternoon, I eventually called Dr NorZ, our good doctor friend. He recommended I take some omeprazole. So I went to the pharmacy, and got the medication. I’m supposed to take a tablet each night for 7 nights. Will let you know how it turns out, ok?

And yes, I know, I not fit…. I need to restart my daily exercise too!

I’ve been busy since we got back from Chiang Mai, and the coughing and fever didn’t help. I am still coughing – the way I cough, hmm… people might think that I just got back from Haj! Really reminded me of the time we got back from Haj (2003) when the coughing lasted almost 2 months after we got home!

Anyway, I still don’t have time to blog about the CM trip, so if you want to look at the pix that DH took (I hardly took any pic, even though I did carry my faithful Lumix wherever I went), please visit our album here.

This morning I made this bracelet from the stones (polished quartz, I think) that I bought in Chiang Mai:

I made it because I wanted to wear it with the new  baju kurung (I got the fabric as a birthday gift a few months ago) which I think matches the bracelet (or vice versa) very well. Don’t you think so?
